Extramural Update 5

Well, Dan Fladda, John Mason, Ben Strunk, Larry Lawson, Ian Swoboda, and Doug Vinci rounded out the extramural regional tournament season. They took the long 14 hour drive from Athens to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the University of Southern Mississippi. They arrived at 8 am on Friday and had their first games Saturday morning. They all officiated greatly and endured a full day of games. On Sunday not all the officials at the tournament were asked to stay and officiate but all of our officials advanced. Again our officials officiated to our high expectations. Ben Strunk, John Mason, and Larry Lawson had a great day and worked quarter-final games. Ian Swoboda officiated the Men’s Open Championship, Dan Fladda officiated the Women’s Championship, and Doug Vinci officiated in the Men’s Championship. Ian Swoboda was an All-Tournament official and received a bid to the national tournament in Tampa, Florida. All of these officials greatly represented Ohio University and made us all proud. Dan Fladda was honored to receive an at large bid to the ACIS National Championships.

On another note, look forward to our final flag-football extramural update. We have four officials going to national tournaments. Greg Allensworth, John Mason, and Dan Fladda will be traveling to New Orleans for the ACIS National Championship December 28-31, and Ian Swoboda will be headed to Tampa, Florida for the NIRSA National Championship January 3-5.
