Sony Ericcson Update

Hello Everyone,

Reporting live from Sunny Miami Florida, and the Sony Ericcson Open. Monday was a very long day. The start time was suppose to be 10am, however, because of rain the 48 match day started at 2pm. The last crew was done at 2am, I was fortunate enough to be finished at 10pm.

Today was a much nicer day, 75 and sunny. We started at 10am, so for the crews that finished up for to, it was an early morning, and we were all done by 7pm. Today we finished qualifying and started a few main draw women's matches.

Tomorrow the big shots start, the main draw begins, and the action should heat up. Come back later for constant updates

Extramural Update 2

Hello All,

Reporting from sunny Las Vegas, I have the second installment of the Extramural Basketball season. This weekend myself, Brian Beam, Ian Swoboda, and Andrew Hiltbrand travelled to Sin City. Beam and I were on the officials' evaluation staff while Hiltbrand and Swoboda officiated. Both Hiltbrand and Swoboda did a wonderful job. Hiltbrand officiated a men's quarter final game, while Swoboda officiated the men's final. When it came down to giving out awards Mr. Swoboda was honored as an All-Tournament Official.

Coming up in the future are tournaments at Middle Tennessee State University, Mississippi State University, and The Ohio State University, so keep your eyes posted to the blog for more updates

NIRSA NCCS Flag Football National Championships

Hello Again,

Well everyone it is the final update for flag football for this season. It comes action packed with highlights from the NIRSA NCCS National Flag Football Championships in Tampa, Florida. OUIM sent Ian Swoboda to officiate in the championships, and did a stand up job. The last day of the event, he had the privelege to referee a highly contested men's semi-final, and was the line judge in the women's final. Unlike at the ACIS National tournament where being in a final did not guarantee you the recognition of being All-American, at NIRSA it did. Thus because Ian was the line judge in the women's final, he is OU's 3rd and final All-American of the season. Please congratulate him if you see or talk to him!

This being a final post for the flag football season, here is the wrap-up:

OUIM sent 25 officials to 10 different regionals or state tournaments, and 2 national tournaments. At the end of the regional and state tournaments, Preston Carr, Greg Allensworth, John Mason, and Ian Swoboda were named All-Tournament officials. Making the voyage to the ACIS National tournament was John Mason, Greg Allensworth, and Dan Fladda, while Ian Swoboda travelled to Tampa for the NIRSA National Championships. When the national tournaments were finished OUIM came away with 3 All-American officials: Ian Swoboda, Dan Fladda, and Greg Allensworth.

National Update 4

Hello All,

Well its the final update from the ACIS Nationals. To start the day off we found out there would only be 12 all-americans, instead of the normal 16. That means if you did a final you were not guarnanteed to be an All-American. Mason had a very good tournament, and did a Men's Open Semi-Final. Fladda also did a fantastic job and was field judge in the Co-Rec final. Finally, Allensworth was the referee of the Men's Open final.

When all was said and done OU came away with two All-American officials in Dan Fladda and Greg Allensworth. Even though the 31st ACIS National Championship is over, we are not done. Log on next week, and receive daily updates from the NIRSA National Championships, where Ian Swoboda will be representing the program.

National Update days 1-3

Hello All,

Just an update from nationals. Allensworth, Fladda, and Mason left Athens at 2pm and arrived in New Orleans at 4:30am. After a Few hours of sleep the left for a nice four hour officials clinic that dissected video, did on field work, and went over points of emphasis for the tournament.

Game play actually started on the 29th at 9am. Starting the day and tournament Allensworth and Fladda were crew chiefs. All three had a relatively routine day, and no problems occurred.

On the 30th, Allensworth was a crew chief. Mason and Fladda again had routine days, and a shorter day than Allensworth. Allensworth's last game, was an Open game, that went into overtime. The field was only lit by street lights and Christmas lights.

Tomorrow, are the finals, and all three are expecting good assignments. So tune in tomorrow evening for a final update from New Orleans.
